Shop Suggestion [read and comment here please] Empty Shop Suggestion [read and comment here please]

Since I've heard that a shop idea was shot down once before, I just thought that I might give it a try, because we need something to spend cenz on. Anyway, I was thinking that to get a certain item that you would need to 'order' the materials needed to create said item. This would serve as both structure to an item (strength) and overall individualism when it comes to a character's signature item. Some items require more material than other due to either the size of simplicity. Now of course, anyone would be able to make their own item from scratch, but it would require more money to create and procure. So, without further waiting, here is an example of creating a gun, a sword, and a gauntlet:

Name: Super Gun (just a name, bear with me please)
Type: Hand-held Pistol
Dimensions: (only necessary for martial weapons such as swords or spears, optional for guns or anything that anyone can clearly see in real life like a lighter)
Group: Military/Ishvalan
Function: To shot objects with accuracy based on the [Dexterity] stat.
Materials:

  • Pistol Mold (molds are default shop-ready materials when you don't feel like making your own item and this is why it would be cheaper to buy directly from the shop rather than make your own special weapon within reason)
  • Small amount of Balsa (materials also come in dimensions; small/medium/large)
  • Small amount of iron (yes, the metal used is specific and is also a part of what makes something sturdier than other weapons)
  • Bullets (makes sense, doesn't it? But no, there will be no special bullets due to the fact that it would make no sense)
  • Gun Powder (for the bullets)

Name: Super Sword (again, just a name, bear with me please)
Type: Saber
Dimensions: 40 inch in length (doesn't need to be too specific)
Group: Military/Ishvalan
Function: To slash at things and cut them to pieces.
Materials:

  • Medium amount of iron (the bigger the item or the more metal it takes to make it, the larger the block needs to be)
  • Small cloth of leather (for the handle of the weapon)
  • Medium amount of Balsa (for the sheathe)
  • Sword Mold

Name: Super Gauntlets (bear with me more)
Type: Metallic Gauntlets
Dimensions: /(only necessary for martial weapons such as swords or spears, optional for guns or anything that anyone can clearly see in real life like a lighter)
Group: Military/Ishvalan/Alchemists
Function: To either punch harder or to use as a medium for alchemy.
Materials:

  • Gauntlet Mold
  • Large amount of iron (large because you are making two gauntlets)
  • Large cloth of leather (for the part you slide your hands in so that you don't get blisters)
  • Alchemy Inscription (if your an alchemist, you need this material, it's not default)

Here is a list of all the materials that i could think of for creating items like weapons and such. Notice that there are size variations and type variations such as the 'metals':

Metals (listed in order of ascending strength):

  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Iron
  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Steel
  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Carbon-steel
Wood (listed in order of ascending strength):

  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Balsa
  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Hickory
  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Black Ironwood
Other (miscellaneous materials such as 'leather' that do nothing but make something look good or feel better):

  • Small/Medium/Large cloth of Leather
  • Small/Medium/Large cloth of Animal Fur
  • Alchemy Inscriptions (would be priced the same no matter how many you buy)
  • Paint Job
  • Anything anyone else can think of ^_^
Alright, now for the final thing that anyone can shop for is land. Literally land. This was an idea that Uly had once suggested over the c-box a while ago, so i just thought that i would put that here, too. Uly's example of what land could do for you is to make you a famous like the Armstrong family that owns tons of land and are famous for being rich. Nothing else i can think of besides 'fame' when it come to land.
Now things that I myself can't think of myself are the ever infamous 'prices' to the materials/items/land. That would be something that also needs discussion on more than anything else. But other than that, feel free to comment on everything else, too.

Bon reminded me of something that MY character needs too...automail...which would follow the same template as the other stuff. The only thing i would need to add about that is the part in [Group] to which anyone can use automail. Well, nvm, another thing to add would be a new material which would be the [Electronics] of the automail. That would go under [Other] imo. Anyway, just wanted to say that i missed talking about automail.

I like the concept, but with starting a character with auto mail/weapons/alchemist gloves etc etc how do we deduct cenz? Do people get 1 free low ranked item? If items are ranked (If Steel is stronger than Iron) than i believe the higher ranked (stronger) the item, the higher rank the character has to be, to be able to use it (iron = novice, steel = intermediate).

And for the pricing i believe it should be quite expensive to buy items due to how easy it is to gain cenz. People should feel the need to 'save' their money so they can't deck out their inventory early, and the method of having ranked items would make people 'earn' what they buy. (The higher the rank of the item, the higher the price)

Can we own certain places (a bar in the east) or is it whole suburbs?

I like the whole buying an area thing, gives you IC stuff to RP. Perhaps a tax that needs to be paid per month to ensure that they area active( i need something to spend cenz on!)

Good point Zehl, and yes, every starting character could get a low quality item if they so desire, but just one or two, and seeing as it could turn out to be a touchy subject, we need more mods and Uly to comment about this. As for the rank to quality thing, I doubt that we should do something like that. If the price is going to high, that means you must have RPed quite a bit (or spammed...) to get those cenz for a high quality item. But if any other mod thinks differently on the rank to quality system, then they should comment!!!

Now the price should be high, but we still need ####s. Again, I've hit a blank about how high the prices should be. If we make the prices too high, then the popularity of the site could go down, or if the prices are too high, etc. We need several price ranges to be able to determine what the best price is. Now if it turns out to be really low, then we need to implement a rank to quality system for sure.

Please comment some more everyone!!! Don't just read and agree!!!

Alright, so it seems that talking about prices is taboo atm, so I'll just add something about the quality level an item could have depending on the materials used. Now then:

Quality is the numerical value associated with the strength and durability of an item in comparison to another (aka, the power one weapon has over another). This numerical value is based on the combined values of the materials used to create said item. So here's the edited list of items with quality values (items in red are newly added to the list):

Metals:

  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Iron - 3
  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Steel - 4
  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Carbon-steel - 5
  • Mold - dependent on metal used (yes, this can affect the quality)
Couldn't think of a better category to put a mold since it's both an item and a material (explained at the bottom)...

Wood:

  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Balsa - 1
  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Hickory - 2
  • Small/Medium/Large amount of Black Ironwood - 3
Other (these materials don't have number values unless someone wants them to, then things will be discussed):

  • Small/Medium/Large cloth of Leather
  • Small/Medium/Large cloth of Animal Fur
  • Alchemy Inscriptions
  • Paint Job
  • Blueprint
  • Automail Electronics/Mechanisms
  • Anything anyone else can think of ^_^
I forgot to mention something about molds. Molds are all metal items that also act as materials that are used to craft weapons such as guns, swords or other things (which should be known already). If you wish to create your own weapon, then you need to create the mold first which only requires a Large amount of [Metal]. That's all I forgot to add about molds, thanks for reading ^_^

NOW COMMENT SOME MORE!!!! ABOUT PRICES SPECIFICALLY!!!

We need to come up with balanced prices to match our Cenz system, as it was mentioned before the prices shouldn't be too low cause we want members to think wisely before purchasing something.

Hmm, wouldn't adding materials to the template complicate things a bit?

it could end up being a little hard to keep track of UNLESS there is a good shop keeper or two (or three, doesn't matter how many; quality over quantity).

And without the materials in the template, that would make getting items such as weapons easier to get in my opinion. With the materials, it also makes things more realistic, something that could bring out some more popularity.

I would like to say that, "the more complex a system, the more interesting it becomes..."

So yeah, we just need a good shop keeper mod or two to keep things organized and approved. Having a shop section wouldn't be bad either (with rules and such that I could type up if need be).

But other than that, what do you think of the prices?
